History of the European Automotive Division
Spintex was founded in 1929 in Gilly, Belgium, was then bought by Glaverbel, Belgian glass manufacturer, and became its Automotive Division.
In 1981, "Asahi Glass" acquires 80% of Glaverbel's stocks.
After being pioneer of privatization in the Czech Republic (1990) and in Russia (1997), Glaverbel becomes the second largest European glass producer with the acquisition of PPG Industries's European glass operations, including automotive glass plants.
In April 2002, AGC decided to adopt the In-House Company system, with which globally integrated management system by business units were aimed, instead of the previous region-by-region based management structure. Splintex became the European General Division of Automotive Glass Company.
In January 2004, our Group completed the global integration of its branding under the banner of "AGC Automotive". Splintex changed its name to the current AGC Automotive Europe.
For a couple of years, AGC Automotive Europe has expanded its operations to more value added in the glass, thus improving competitiveness of its value chain. Our company has presently 7 AVO plants and will continue to develop these types of activities in the coming years.
